Chris Ryan is a founding partner and shareholder of Direct Group. A 30-year veteran of the direct mail industry, Ryan has extensive knowledge in the areas of sales, operations, facilities management, equipment, logistics, technology and production, as well as deep experience in leadership development.
As Chief Operating Officer of Direct Group, Ryan is focused on the direct mail, fulfillment, postal and logistics sides of the business, overseeing the company’s New Jersey-based production facilities in Swedesboro and Robbinsville, which together employ more than 600 associates. He was instrumental in Direct Group’s installation of the Océ JetStream 2200 printing system, featuring the world’s most advanced digital printing technology. Direct Group is the first company in North America to feature this sophisticated system.
In addition, Ryan’s expertise in the postal and logistics arenas was essential in the implementation of the company’s PostalOptimizer® platform, launched in 2007, which has generated major savings for clients in the face of continuing postal rate increases.
Previously, Ryan served as Direct Group Executive Vice President responsible for service, quality, sales and marketing. Prior to helping establish Direct Group in 1995, Ryan spent 11 years as Vice President of Sales and General Manager of American Mail-Well in Philadelphia, where he engineered the successful turnaround of the company’s production facility.
Following four years of military service in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft electrician specializing in B-52 and refueling aircrafts, Ryan began his career at Boise Cascade, rapidly ascending to a marketing manager position on the company’s most profitable product line. He is a member of the Direct Marketing Association and The Envelope Manufacturers Association.
