Don McKenzie

President and CEO, Direct Group

Don McKenzieDon McKenzie has more than 25 years of experience in executive management with 12 years in the direct marketing services industry.  He has been a group president and/or CEO for privately and publicly traded companies as well as organizations backed by private equity firms and hedge funds.  He also led one of the top investment banks in the industry and serves on the Board of Directors for the Direct Marketing Association.  McKenzie has effectively led profitable growth for many companies in addition to directing corporate turnarounds and realigning leadership teams to address economic challenges and new market realities.

Since September 2006, McKenzie has been President and CEO of Direct Group, a fully integrated direct marketing services provider.  Direct Group is an $80 million company that employs 600 people and processes more than a billion pieces of mail each year.  During his tenure, McKenzie and his team have built one of the most comprehensive, full-service, client-centric direct marketing services platforms in the industry.  The company has also made significant strides in total quality management, corporate environmental responsibility and investments in client-focused, state-of-the-art digital printing technology.  Direct Group serves a wide variety of market segments, including insurance, financial services, gaming, retail, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, travel and leisure, automotive, nonprofit and home security.

Prior to joining Direct Group, McKenzie was President & CEO of Petsky Prunier LLC, investment bankers in New York and the direct marketing industry’s leading investment banking firm, which provides merger and acquisition and private placement advisory services to buyers and sellers of direct marketing, marketing services and technology, multichannel marketers, advertising and promotion, and information companies.  In that role, he actively consulted with CEOs on strategic marketing, deal sourcing and transaction execution while also managing the firm’s operations.

Previously, as President of Transcontinental Direct U.S.A (formerly CC3), McKenzie’s leadership drove significant revenue and outstanding earnings growth, several acquisitions, and a number of operational integration processes.  From 2000 to 2005, McKenzie grew the company’s revenue from $60 million to $260 million.

Before assuming leadership of CC3, McKenzie led the start-up of the online division of ADVO, Inc., the nation’s largest direct-mail marketing services company.  McKenzie joined ADVO after overseeing the turnaround, financial restructuring and purchase of SuperCoups, a cooperative direct mail company.  He also served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Health Tour, a medical staffing company, and early in his career he launched and owned Graphic Systems West, a manufacturer’s representative company.

Throughout his career, McKenzie has actively participated in industry trade associations and has spoken at numerous trade and analyst conferences.  In October 2006, he was appointed to the Direct Marketing Association’s Board of Directors for a three-year term.  McKenzie has also served as a member of the DMA Financial Services Council, was one of the founding members of the Saturation Mailers Coalition, and has served on the Board of Directors of PostCom.
